HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO THIS?

We are going to engage our core value of becoming a Bible Anchored church in 2025 by engaging in Life Group Discussions, Sermon Engagement and Daily Bible Reading for the young and old and everyone inbetween.

WHAT IS THIS?

In 2025 we are going to take off on a journey of walking through the Bible from 40,000 feet.

As we go through this bird’s-eye view of placing God’s Word in an easy-to-grasp setting, it will widen your horizons and enlighten your understanding of the story of Jesus Christ from eternity’s past to eternity with Him in heaven. With Bible in hand, jump aboard, peer through the cockpit, and catch this fast-moving flight that will set the Bible in motion for you and your family. You will not regret this journey through the Word of God.

LIFE GROUP DISCUSSION

Whether a family of one or many we have a Life Group for everyone and in 2025 we will begin to navigate through all sixty-six books of the Bible, revealing major themes, principles, people, and events from Genesis to Revelation. And one of the grand themes of the Bible is the need for God’s people to read His Word and know it well.

When involved in a Life Group you will be able to develop the weekly disciplines of Bible reading, scripture memory, accountability and prayer that are often neglected. In the context of Biblical community you will be able to rub shoulders with others in that as they read the Holy Spirit may reveal to them something that they will be able to share in Life Group that you need to hear that day. It comes down to the fact that Bible literacy makes or breaks God’s people spiritually. We prosper when we treasure His Word and remain Bible Anchored.

So, fasten your seatbelt and open your Bible for this sweeping panorama of Scripture that will increase your faith in God’s plan for the world and for you.

SERMON ENGAGEMENT

In 2025, Pastor Jonathan Downs is taking an entire year to walk through the Bible, from “In the Beginning” to the very last “Amen.” Most of us would say we value the Bible, but how well do we really know the big picture? This year’s long series will showcase that the true story of the whole world has been in our hands all along … and that every page of it points back to one person: Jesus Christ.

“If all Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching,” the question is, “Why do we tend to focus on certain parts of the Bible and pay little attention to the rest?”

Pastor Jonathan wants to preach all of Scripture, ignoring nothing, delighting in all of it. It’s all God-breathed and it is all profitable.

DAILY BIBLE READING

Have you ever closed your Bible and thought, “What did I just read?” Yes, me too.

Maybe you’ve tried to read through the Bible, but quit when it felt confusing or impersonal. Perhaps you never found a good rhythm.

By reading the Bible chronologically in a year it allows you to better understand the overall narrative and historical context of the Bible by following the sequence of events, giving you a clearer picture of God’s plan throughout history, and enabling you to see how different stories and characters connect to each other within the timeline. It helps you grasp the “big picture” from 40,000 feet.

BIBLE 40K FAQs

We use the ESV (English Standard Version) of the Bible. Here are some of our favorites! As for a chronological Bible, we recommend that you do NOT buy one of those, because it will likely be laid out differently than our plan. Instead, just use your regular print Bible or listen along via the Bible app according to our reading plan. There is also a daily podcast from the BibleRecap.com that is highly recommended.

Start reading your Bible right where we are at. We all miss days from time to time and it is better to continue than to feel overwhelmed and give up. You will still get nuggets of the reading from Life Group discussions and sermon engagement also.

A good place to find definitions to common Bible words like “Holiness” or “Atonement” among other topics all supported by Scripture references.

·      www.bibleproject.com

You will find here great visual video overviews of specific books of the Bible and demonstrates that the whole Bible is a seamless thread of one story. These videos can also be found on YouTube as well. Note: I have not watched all 66+ of them, but from the one’s I have watched they are Biblically sound and can be good for you to watch and encourage those you teach and shepherd to watch in your Life Group.

·      www.biblehub.com

This resource is great for a few reasons. One it’s ability for you to use the parallel function. You can look at one verse and compare it with over 30 other version on your screen. The second feature is when you click on topical. For example, if you took Numbers 1:1 it will break it down to people, places, themes, outline and more. Everything is hyperlinked so you can click and learn more.
